Although it measures just over 6,200 yards from the back tees, Merchantville CC provides a challenge to golfers of all levels.  The course is very tight, with little place to hit the ball outside of the fairways. Out of Bounds exists on almost every tee shot. The greens are small and well-protected, which makes par recoveries tricky when they are missed. The course's most distinguising feature is "the ditch", which is ever-present throughout the entire course and must be crossed 26 times. Due to all of this trouble, the slope rating consistently remains among the highest in the Philadelphia region.  

Above all else, the conditions are never less than pristine, and the greens at MCC are praised year-in and year-out by visiting players for their speed and consistency. Very few golf courses compete with Merchantville when it comes to playing conditions.
